Food in New Orleans: The Best Southern Cuisine!

Food in New Orleans

I just returned from a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana and I must say that I ate GOOD! There is an abundance of culture in the city, and the food follows suit! You can find almost anything you crave, but favorites include jambalaya, Po Boys, gumbo, red beans and rice, seafood, including crawfish, shrimp and catfish, and some of the best mac and cheese, greens, grits and corn bread in the world.

Here are my favorite meals I ate in NOLA…

Brunch

This is the bananas foster french toast plate at Stanley Restaurant, Jackson Square in the French Quarter. Oh my YUM!

Appetizer

This isn’t the best photo, but the charcuterie board at Domenica is the Roosevelt Hotel was everything! I tried picked watermelon rinds and savory beignets for the first time, which come with this plate.

Lunch and Dinner

Pay a visit to Cafe Reconcile, an organization that works to train at risk youth in the New Orleans area to learn life skills and on the job training to succeed in the restaurant business. I love the mission they are on, and the food is quite amazing too! This is a catfish plate with crawfish remoulade, jambalaya and greens as sides. A-mazing!

Dessert

You simply can’t pay a visit to New Orleans without having some famously delicious beignets at Cafe DuMonde. They are french donuts dusted with a helping of powdered sugar, looking at this photo makes me want to fly back out to NOLA and get some right now!

New Orleans is a must see, must eat city. The history, culture and recipes have been preserved, there aren’t many like it!
