Are you looking for a beautiful Mexico vacation where you can relax and enjoy the sunshine? La Paz may just be your destination! We took a last minute getaway trip here last year and it was so much needed. La Paz, Mexico is in the Baja California area, super close to Cabo San Lucas and a really short flight from San Diego. We loved everything about this laid back city, the weather is perfect pretty much year round and it is a much more low key destination in Baja California, Mexico. Here are some fun things we did in La Paz in Baja California!
5 Fun Things To Do In La Paz, Mexico
Lounging by the Costa Baja hotel pool
Traveling takes a lot out of you, so we decided to spend some time at the pool at our hotel, the Costa Baja Resort. This hotel is beautiful, everything is very modern and the food and drinks were superb. We spent a couple of hours soaking up the Mexican sun and dipping our toes into to water. There is a beach close by, so we ended up collecting shells, and walking there to wet our feet, too.
Strolled the sea side La Paz Malecon in the Downtown area
The Malecon is a very popular part of the La Paz Downtown area because of its restaurants, shops, and proximity to the beach! There are some iconic statues along the beach and it is a really nice place to take a walk, do some people watching, pop into some of the shops for souvenirs, and hopefully catch some live entertainment like we did.
Eat fresh lobster in Downtown La Paz
While strolling along in the Downtown area, we found an amazing little seaside restaurant, Mariscos Bismark-cito. Oh man oh man this lobster house it AMAZING! The menu was full of seafood delights, but we had to order the lobster dish as it is their specialty. There are tons of lobster platter sizes and ways to prepare them, but we went for the garlic butter plate. WOW. I definitely recommend this place!
Snorkeling with sea lions in La Paz Baja California
Did you know that you can snorkel with wild sea lions in the La Paz area? You totally can, and they are as playful as ever! We took a tour of Isla Espiritu Santo and Los Islotes with Fun Baja Tours, a UNESCO world heritage site, where the wild life is plentiful and the sea lions live. They took us about an hour out to this majestic little island, and when we jumped into the water, the sea lions came and met us under water! This is one of the top fun things to do in La Paz, Mexico, a first, and I really enjoyed it. Another popular excursion – snorkeling with whale sharks!
Ate Mexican food and drank to our hearts content
This may have been my favorite part of the trip, because I love to eat! When you visit La Paz, Mexico, it is imperative that you eat as much Mexican food as possible, right? Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines, so it was very necessary to eat all of the enchiladas, guacamole, tacos, and nachos that we could handle. Also, the tequila and margaritas were flowing, we tried different foods and drinks at all of the places we visited. There was also a super cute coffee shop, Doce Cuarenta, that I recommend you stop by to get your caffeine fix!
