We had a last minute kayaking session in Long Beach for a fun end to the summer. I live in Southern California so there are a lot of times where I end up finding cool things that I hadn’t thought of doing and this was one of them. We had a blast and burned a ton of calories!
This particular place allows you to kayak around Naples Island and the connected waterways. We went under bridges and passed cool homes with their own private docks and boats. The cool part is that there is a dock right at the nearby shopping center where you can park your kayak, get out, and go to Acapulco for a margarita! The shopping center also has a Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Barnes and Noble and other places to hang out. We were all wet in Acapulco but it was worth it!
You can rent the kayaks by the hour and no reservations are necessary. After you sign your life away, they provide a tutorial video as well as a life jacket for each person, a dry bag for your valuables, a map of the waterways for your group, paddles and of course your favorite color kayak. You pay at the end and as long as you bring them back by 6pm, you’re good! You do need to be able to swim to rent these. They also have paddle board rentals available.
Keep this place in mind the next time the sun is out and you’re looking for some low key water adventures.
