Privacy Policy

Who we are

Our website address is: http://www.thetravelistas.com. We are a personal blog with an online presence, and collect some of your data when you visit our site.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect some of your personal data, such as name, email address, transactional and technical data, such as information about cookies. We only collect data for advertising purposes, and only when you’ve given your consent as a user. Your personal data is not just created by a user’s interactions with your site, it is also generated from technical processes such as contact forms, comments, cookies, analytics, and third party embeds.

By default, the WordPress platform does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. Some of our other third party plugins and advertisers may use your data for those purposes only, again, only with your consent.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. We also ask for your website URL, but that is completely optional. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

We do not allow media uploads on this site.

Contact forms

We use a contact form plugin, Mail Chimp, which captures some of your personal data, including your personal email address, when you choose to submit it through the form. We keep contact form submissions for as long as you wish to be opted into our mail list, but we do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes. Read through Mail Chimp’s privacy policy here https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. There are no logins on this website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I track visits to my website for business and advertising purposes. Some web hosting and advertising accounts collect some anonymous analytics data. I track primarily with Google Analytics, and I also use JetPack, AdThrive, and my hosting company 1&1. Click each of those respective links to read their privacy policies, and learn how to opt out.

Who we share your data with

We do share some of your data with third parties for advertising purposes. We work with both AdThrive and Google Adsense, who use information about your data, including, your location, device usage, cookies, and web browsing info to tailor ads to your interests. We never share your personal email address or website.

How long we retain your data

When you choose to subscribe, your data will be saved until you choose to opt out. We keep this information so we can send you our website updates as requested. If you leave a comment on this website, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have subscribed in error or left comments on this website, you can request to receive information file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Data collected on this site may be transferred to our web hosting service, cloud storage, or other advertisers and third party services. Information on this site is safeguarded by our web host with SSL certificates, DDoS protection, and geo-redundancy, and visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
